How do I answer it? Well, perhaps this is what might be going through your mind. The answer varies and it should; as I have been stressing earlier that an interview requires lot and lots of homework on your part, so a prior research into the company profile and the position you are applying for is very essential. One you are finished with this job, you must be having a list in your hand enumerating the various qualities, attributes and qualifications etc required for the position. Now you have to kind of establish a fit between your personality and the job attributes and you are ready with the answer. You might start like this: ‘Sir/ Madam, going by what I know about this position I think I am absolutely qualified to do this job’. If for example you have applied for a sales or business development position the answer could be: ‘Sir, I think I have got everything that it takes to be a good sales or BD person. I am goal oriented, I possess good communication skills, a pleasing personality, I am a team player and I have got complete product knowledge’. Remember these are nothing but what you mentioned in your strengths.

Taking it further you can mention something about your work experience; in case you have any and try to explain how that will help you earn business at your new job. Carefully revise your resume time and again until you are completely convinced yourself that there is no grammatical mistake now. Having done this, show it to someone else for his review. This will rule out the chances of any spelling or grammatical error. Remember an error is counted as an error, deliberate or otherwise.

First things first: One has to set his/her priorities while drafting the resume. Important and greatest accomplishments of your career, for example, should be mentioned in the first place and in a manner to attract the attention of the reader. Highlighting by using a bold font serves well. The standard practice is to start with your personal details viz the name, the address, contact details and the email ID.

This is followed by a brief intro about you. Being precise and crisp and making use of the simplest words in the dictionary is the best practice. An intro, for example could well be like this, ‘an intrinsically driven, creative advertising professional with a highly successful track record across premier organizations’.

The intro spans over some 15-16 words and yet communicates a great deal about the interviewee. Brevity holds the key! The intro is followed by the objective. There is no golden rule to write them separately and both can be merged into one single statement.

This type of resume thus focuses upon the skill set that is relevant to the current job. The emphasis is thus upon establishing a fit between the job requirements and the skills or knowledge of the prospective candidate.

Functional resume: This type of resume revolves more around your skills and strengths rather than your work experience. It’s recommended to people having worked across different domains and industries.

It’s a bit complicated in nature and thereby difficult to draft. It’s advisable to get this type of resume specifically made by professional resume makers.

Combination resume: In combination resume your skills and experience are written first followed by the employment history. This is the conventional resume that is commonly drafted by individuals themselves, without any professional aid.

Combination resumes are not that effective in helping you sell yourself to the interviewer. The information is organized haphazardly without any logical sequence, which at times annoys the interviewer; thus, spoiling your prospects of getting selected.

He reads, he absorbs, he perceives and he arrives upon an image. A set of personality attributes gel up in his mind and he meets you before actually meeting you in person! The flip side of this is that once that image is formed in the mind of the interviewer you have to live up to that image and exceed or at least meet his expectations concerning you.

Next, we talk of things pertaining to ourselves in our CV. Rightly so; but it if your resume lists everything regarding you, the interviewer is left with few questions to ask! Less communication implies chance to put across your point and it is very difficult to convince the interviewer in such small amount of time. One way is to insert some topic in the resume that incites him for a discussion. For example, you may mention leadership and people skills or some current topic of debate pertaining to your area of work, all to earn some more time and engage him in discussion. But yes be prepared for your facts and figures to support your arguments, just in case a discussion starts.

Second is in terms of offering a way out of recession and ways and means to increase the bottom line without shrinking the operations, without downsizing perhaps by increasing the efficiency of the workforce or by renegotiating with the vendors etc.

Recession can thus effectively be employed as means to increase your chances of employment with a particular organization.
Why should we hire you? Why do you think that you are a suitable candidate for this post? What you can do for us? How can you prove that you are a right selection? Why do you want to work for us? Do you really want to work with us or you came here just because you got this opportunity after a very long time?
